BingoLotto

Sunday 13 April 2008

The National Stoolball Association, along with over 150 other national governing bodies, has signed up to be part of BingoLotto: a money-raising scheme supported by the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) to help raise funds for grass-roots sport.

BingoLotto is the brainchild of Gert Eklund and his company ISG (Intelligent Gaming Solutions) which was started more than 15 years ago in Sweden. Although they too have a National Lottery as a competitor, it has flourished and achieved a great deal for charities in that country (nearly £1bn since 1991).

Got Insured?

Saturday 5 April 2008

Renewal notices for clubs and associations participating in the National Stoolball Association (NSA)’s Civil Liability and Personal Accident schemes have now been dispatched to club contacts.

Invitations to renew cover for Civil Liability and Personal Accident insurance for a further year has been dispatched this weekend by email or post to clubs who previously participated in the two schemes run by the NSA.

These invitations should be dropping into inboxes or through letter boxes over the next couple of days, and clubs are urged to respond by return in order to maintain cover for their members.

NSA Executive Officer, Michael Ledwich, who now has responsibilty for the two schemes, said:

“In these increasingly litigatious times that we live in, it is more and more important that clubs and associations protect themselves from claims for damages as well as losses through accidents caused whilst playing or watching stoolball.  I strongly urge all clubs to take out cover, whether through our schemes or through their parent sports clubs, so as to mitigate problems that could occur at any time, to anyone associated with the game.”

In relation to the NSA schemes he commented:

“I believe that these give good value for the level of cover provided and because they were specifically written for sportsmen and women there should be less likelihood of problems of interpretation occurring should a club or individual member need to make a claim”.

Any club which participated in 2007 and does not receive their renewal invitation, or any club that would like to consider participating for the first time, should contact Michael as soon as possible.  Details of how to get in touch with him can be found on the About Us pages of this site.

The Argus, in particular, wants to hear from players what they think the decision means for the sport. We’d like to see as many comments as possible to promote the game.

Stoolball recognised by Sport England

Wednesday 2 April 2008

Sport England, the government agency responsible for advising, investing in and promoting community sport, has recognised stoolball as a sport. This decision follows six years of work by everyone at the National Stoolball Association, and in particular by the chairman and secretary, John and Kay Price. Recognition supports stoolball’s recent inclusion in the National Curriculum for schools and means stoolball clubs, villages and sporting groups can apply for more funding.
